GUIDE FOR PARENT

In 2004, Cerveceros de España has developed, in co-operation with the University of Valencia and with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fishing and Food, a new social awareness initiative.

The aim of this guide is to inform parents with children aged between 6 and 13 the best way to establish a dialogue about alcohol consumption. The main guideline is “not to worry about it but to deal with it”.

The guide gives parents some useful recommendations about how to lay the bases that will help their children to take their own decisions regarding alcohol intake, as they grow older.

Specifically regarding alcohol consumption, the Guide explains that: “parents must inform their children from an early age (6 years) about how to take responsible decisions regarding alcohol consumption. Parents should deter them from consuming any alcoholic drink while they are minors, since it will seriously damage their health and prevent normal physical and intellectual development. When they are 18 years old, if they decide to consume these kinds of drinks, they should do it in a responsible way, always in moderation and accompanied by food. In addition, it is also necessary to teach them that many adults have taken the decision to never drink alcohol and they also enjoy a happy and healthy life”.
